Hanspeter Kellermüller Becomes New CEO of Keystone-SDA
The Board of Directors has appointed Hanspeter Kellermüller the new CEO of Keystone-SDA, beginning on September 1, 2023. Currently the Secretary General of NZZ, Kellermüller will succeed Markus Schwab, who is retiring at the end of 2023.
Keystone-SDA is gaining a well-established industry expert in Hanspeter Kellermüller (54): an attorney, he has been Secretary General of NZZ and thus a member of its extended executive board since 2009. Kellermüller was previously CEO of the Verband Schweizer Presse (now Verband Schweizer Medien (VSM)). He has sat on the VSM Executive Board since 2017. In addition, Kellermüller was a member of Keystone-SDA’s Board of Directors from 2014 to Spring 2022. He began his professional career as a radio journalist and then gained further experience in roles such as an ICRC delegate in Africa.
“Keystone-SDA guarantees a supply of relevant and reliable journalistic content from every region of Switzerland. This is now more important than ever, and I am delighted to be able to help successfully carry this national institution forward into the future together with my colleagues,” Kellermüller said about his step into the news agency’s operational management.
With more than 20 years of experience in Swiss publishing and media, Kellermüller has an in-depth understanding of the local media landscape: “We are delighted to have gained an exceptionally well qualified industry expert as Keystone-SDA’s new CEO in the shape of Hanspeter Kellermüller,” said Ueli Eckstein, Chair of Keystone-SDA’s Board of Directors. “We are confident that Hanspeter Kellermüller will continue to develop the news agency in a challenging environment.”
Markus Schwab will hand over leadership of the news agency on October 1, 2023. Schwab has been heading Keystone-SDA since 2006. Before that, the chartered accountant spent three years running the news agency’s finance and administration division. The past 17 years have been shaped by rapid structural change in the media industry, with challenges to match. Under Schwab’s leadership, Keystone-SDA has become a modern news agency. “We would like to sincerely thank Markus Schwab for the work he has done. He has successfully led Keystone-SDA throughout the years and left a lasting mark on the company,” Ueli Eckstein said.
